This session, someone come up with an interesting question that if you want to make a movie on Iranian culture or society what will you make? Specially those who think Persepolis shows a dark view of Iran.
(the discussion can be in English or Finglish)
Sorry! Just to add another question.
We have talked about it in a session in Cafe lit. and Mehdi also mentioned it this session,Why a writer write? I mean Do you think the writer and Artists create the masterpieces as a duty or the masterpieces are something that come to the mind of the artists spontaneously?
The question was asked at the end of a long discussion to conclude that Persepolis is an autobiography and not a movie about Iranian cultures. This point was the justification of who support the movie. So I think this question wasn’t pertinent in the atmosphere of discussion atmosphere.
But it can be treated as an individual question.
Thanks Pasha for leaving the discussion open...
1. A movie about Iran; Marjan Satrapi has made a movie about how she sees Iran. I will make the movie as I see what's going on... and x and y with their views... I want to say here it is the story of " Har ke az zanne khod shod yare man..."
There is not a unique manuscript...
2. Art... Some believe that duty of art is to criticize the society... But we should remember that the first duty of art is to satisfy the creator...
Art is successful if it satisfies the artist...
Hi!
I think at last I asked the question, and I didn't want to justify anything. This was really a question for me, not just about Perspolis, but it contemplated other Iranian films as well.
Anyway, thankyou for leaving the discussion open.
I personally think that as this film showed a general image of iranians life, the "negative" images have been compensated with positive images, and formed an almost balanced story at the end.
This was the point that I haven't seen in most of other films about Iran shown in Europe and North Amercia.
If one day,I wanted to tell a story,I would try to be fair and show the different styles and contradictions in the society beside each other,so that it doesn't imply a negative effect and besides doesn't show a 100% positive (unreal and unrealistic) image.
